How to avoid the long line into the Vatican is quite easy. You must go on to the Vatican Museums official website by clicking the link. At the top of the page it will give you the option to purchase tickets online. The entrance fee into the Vatican is 15 euro but by purchasing your Vatican tickets to avoid the line it is an extra 4 euro (19 euro in total). Once you have purchased your tickets you will be sent a voucher through your email.
You must print out this voucher and show it at the Vatican Museum entrance. You can walk straight to the front of the long line entering into the Vatican. The guard will scan your ticket and you will enter straight in. Also it is worth noting that the only way you can get to the Sistine Chapel is by going through the Vatican Museums.
Avoiding the line into the Vatican is much easier than you think and you will feel like a V.I.P walking by lines that can be up to 2 hours long.
The best time to enter the Vatican is 14.30 as the crowds generally die down the further into the afternoon.
